Why did we do this(purpose)? We did this lab to find potential cures for human ailments. We were specifically testing extracts for antibiotic activity- Does the extract kill/prevent growth in bacteria?
What did you do? In this lab we gathered plant material and made extracts(water and alcohol). Then we filtered the extracts and poured agar plates. Then we spread the bacteria on the agar. After that we placed filter paper discs soaked in the extracts on the bacteria(grow O/N).
Why is NPDD important? This lab is very important because it teaches the importance of biodiversity. Why is biodiversity important? Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play.
Greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms
A larger number of plant species means a greater variety of crops
Healthy ecosystems can better withstand and recover from a variety of disasters.
Above is a picture of our results - The mint alc had some bacteria grouped in the center - The mint water had some clearings on the top 2 and bacteria on middle and bottom right - The jade alc had lots of bacteria everywhere - The jade water became cloudy and brownish- there might have been some clearing Our results showed that the plants that we had chosen either didn't respond or didn't prevent or kill growth in bacteria.
